CANADA - The relationship between architecture and gender, ideas of freedom and space, and constructs of masculinity inspire The Open Spaces Project, an ambitious and exciting new work created by MACHiNENOiSY Co-Artistic Director Daelik. Choreographed for a cast of six men - Clinton Draper, Alex Ferguson, Shay Kuebler, Brett Owen, Chris Wright and Daelik himself - the work is an international collaboration with set design and dramaturgy by the innovative Berlin-based Australian artist Paul Gazzola, and sound and video by Calgary's Adam Tindale.

Vancouver celebrates International Dance Day with a series of free events which highlight the diversity of BC’s dance scene. Featured events at Scotiabank Dance Centre include studio showings and open classes with contemporary dance company Kinesis Dance, flamenco teacher Eleonora Acuña, and Fancy Dancers Shyama Priya and Nyla Carpenter. Julie Lebel and Miriam Colvin host a public showing of their DanceDemoCamp project, and Laura Hicks and Sara Coffin will give an informal showing of work developed by teens.
The Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) has been awarded a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in the amount of $720,000, making it the largest single grant from the foundation to the Dance Group.
"This grant will allow us to address current as well as future economic challenges the Dance Group faces," Nancy Umanoff, MMDG Executive Director.
It seems like yesterday that I opened a letter addressed to Mr. & Mrs. Saltzman, "Congratulations! You have won ten free lessons at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. . .etc. etc." As the studio was only walking distance from our home, we took advantage of the offer. If only we had signed up for another ten lessons (that was 40 years ago) we might have been world champions today.
