TORONTO, ON – Excavations led by a University of Toronto archaeologist at the site of a recently discovered temple in southeastern Turkey have uncovered a cache of cuneiform tablets dating back to the Iron Age period between 1200 and 600 BCE.  Found in the temple’s cella, or ‘holy of holies’, the tablets are part of a possible archive that may provide insights into Assyrian imperial aspirations.

The struggling airline said it will charge $100 per pet on domestic flights and $200 on international flights.
The Canadian national carrier, which is seeking immediate cash to avoid falling for bankruptcy, had in 2006 banned pets in the cabin over concerns about passenger health.

But, in a statement Wednesday, the Montreal-based airline said it now will allow passengers to bring cats and small dogs in the cabin on its flights from July 1.

Canada threatens WTO complaint over European seal product ban

The federal government says it will launch a complaint with the World Trade Organization unless Canada is exempted from the European Parliament's ban on seal products.

"If the EU imposes a trade ban on seal products, it must contain an exemption for any country, like Canada, that has strict guidelines in place for humane and sustainable sealing practices," said Trade Minister Stockwell Day in a news release Tuesday.

A man who was beaten unconscious for trying to intervene in a fight in a downtown Calgary restaurant has been released from hospital after extensive surgery, as police continue to pursue his attackers.

Philly Roch, a local musician and the co-owner of a downtown bar, was at the Subway at 7th Avenue and 8th Street S.W. at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday getting a sandwich when he saw two men acting aggressively toward a male staff member.

CANADA - About 1,000 people, including relatives of Victoria Stafford, attended a candlelight vigil in Woodstock, Ont., on Sunday and prayed for the safe return of the eight-year-old girl, who went missing Wednesday.

The extended Stafford family gathered earlier Sunday night for Easter dinner before attending the vigil, which was held in the parking lot of a local department store at 8 p.m. ET.

Before FOB and FK, there was the"Runaway Gang."

That's the nickname police investigators gave a ragtag bunch of troublemakers who either attended Forest Lawn High School or spent time hanging around the school a decade ago.

"We watched this group of goofy kids develop into a gang," recalls Henry Hollinger, a retired Calgary police officer who was working in the intelligence unit at the time.

From kids to killers, this is the story of Calgary's evolving gang war, how a group of teens went from cutting class together 10 years ago to shooting each other on city streets.
